In November 2020, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Embassy of Japan, developed a communication initiative aimed at enhancing COVID-19 prevention and control efforts among ethnic minorities, explicitly targeting the Mong community. Based on Directive No. 24/CT-BYT from November 24, 2020, this program focused on promoting the Ministry of Health’s 5K message (mask-wearing, disinfection, social distancing, no gatherings, and health declarations). It included 18 communication materials, such as infographics, video clips, and audio spots, with new approaches to increase awareness of health practices like mask-wearing and handwashing. These materials were translated and dubbed into the Mong language for accessibility. The initiative was part of a broader program to strengthen communication on COVID-19 prevention for ethnic minority traders in Ha Giang province. The communication products were distributed to over 100 health propagandists and women’s associations, broadcast on Ha Giang Radio and Television, and disseminated through central media channels. Additionally, three contents were converted into leaflets in Mong for community distribution. This effort aimed to ensure ethnic minority groups were well-informed about COVID-19 prevention in the "new normal" context.
