Vietnamese Vaccine Program and Experience

Prepared by Lan Thuong Nguyen, a PhD. Candidate from the International Doctoral Program in Asia-Pacific Studies (IDAS) at National Chengchi University (NCCU), Research Assistant at the Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation (CAPRi). Lan Thuong Nguyen is a co-author of this project, collaborating with Dr. Yen Pottinger, an American researcher with clearly defined roles. Nguyen's primary responsibilities include sourcing and analyzing documents related to public health policies during the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination promotion programs, communication strategies, and research articles on vaccine acceptance rates among the Vietnamese population. She also examines public sentiment and other pertinent information regarding the government's COVID-19 strategies. Consequently, Nguyen curated and compiled the datasets stored in Depositar, overseeing their storage, management, and any necessary customization. This process incurs no additional resources, storage, or data preparation costs. Nguyen will manage access to the datasets containing no personal data through the repository. The below dataset is part of the broader project titled "Misinformation, Disinformation, and Vaccine Hesitancy in Vietnam." It focuses on Vietnam's vaccination program and the vaccination experience of Vietnamese people, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides critical insight into the challenges of public health communication in the face of misinformation and disinformation and how the government deals with them. While the country has a history of effective vaccine distribution, the rapid spread of unverified information, both online and offline, posed significant challenges to the government's efforts. The Vietnamese government's initiatives, which included nationwide campaigns promoting vaccine safety and efficacy, faced varying degrees of public response, highlighting the importance of addressing vaccine hesitancy driven by false claims and misunderstandings. Therefore, this dataset helps understand these dynamics, which is essential for assessing how misinformation affects vaccine uptake and the broader public health response. Files must be downloaded to use the entire dataset (depositar only provides limited data previews). This dataset consists of one ZIP file and three PDF files. The ZIP file is an information synthesis of the Vietnamese vaccine experience. PDFs numbers 1, 2, and 3 are the vaccination promotion program of Vietnam. In its present state, the dataset is presented primarily in English.
